These tea light holders will stop you from damaging the wooden surround and are recommended when using live flame tea lights.
Simply bore a hole to the required depth and glue in the holder. Metal cups require a hole approximately 42mm diameter x 17mm deep. A forstner bit is an ideal to for this.
