Tormek SP-650 Stone Grader
The SP-650 Stone Grader gives you precise control over the sharpening characteristics of your Tormek grindstone — adjusting the equivalent grit from 220 to 1000 with a simple press against the running stone. One tool, two sides, infinite versatility.
Why Choose the SP-650 Stone Grader?
- Adjust your grindstone grit to an equivalent of 220–1000 grit
- Compatible with the SG-250 Original Grindstone and SB-250 Blackstone Silicon
- The fine side can also clean your Japanese Waterstone
- Quick and easy to use — just press against the grindstone while the machine is running
- Works with the Tormek T-8, T-4 and all older models
Fine Sharpening or High Material Removal
The SP-650 lets you dial in exactly the sharpening performance you need:
- For finer sharpening: press the fine side of the SP-650 against the surface of the grindstone with the machine running. The grindstone surface changes to deliver a finer, more refined edge.
- For coarser sharpening and faster material removal: press the coarse side against the running grindstone for a few seconds. You can see, feel, and even hear the surface change as the grading takes effect.
Compatible Grindstones with Adjustable Grit
The following Tormek grindstones are specifically designed to work with the SP-650 Stone Grader:
- SG-250 Original Grindstone — 250 mm
- SG-200 Original Grindstone — 200 mm
- SB-250 Blackstone Silicon — 250 mm
The key advantage: remove steel quickly with a coarse setting, then switch to fine for final sharpening — all without changing equipment or losing your sharpening angle.
SP-650 for Grindstone Maintenance
Keep your grindstone in peak condition with regular maintenance using the SP-650:
- Use the coarse side to clean and reactivate your Original Grindstone or SB-250 Blackstone Silicon — press firmly for around 30 seconds.
- Use the fine side to clean your SJ-250 Japanese Waterstone or SJ-200 Japanese Waterstone.
Important Note
Never use the coarse side of the SP-650 on your Japanese Waterstone — this may damage the stone. Always use the fine side only.
