Xylia is an exotic hardwood from Mozambique

Xylia torreana is also known as N'cala and Sand Ash.

The heartwood is dark red with darker purple brown streaks and lighter curly parenchyma bands. weighing 1,150kg's/m3 it is extremely durable and being a busy timber is makes for interesting turning options. Tools need to be sharp and it sands to a fine finish, takes varnish and glues well. Used for turning and carving.
